Connector Types

Sealed

Sealed connectors are mostly used in heavy duty and harsh environment applications. These are used with applications that require ruggedized sealed plugs, receptacles and power connectors that includes IP67 or IP68 rating.

Solderless terminals

These type of connectors are available for various usage like heat-sealable terminals, splices, quick disconnects, snap plugs, wire management, magnet wire, IDC etc.

Wire to board

Wire to board connectors are used to connect printed circuit boards (PCB). These connectors are used with applications that require high-power solutions or microminiature options.

Micro

Micro connectors are used with applications with mobile devices, hand held devices etc. There are multiple type of micro connectors – wire-to-board, wire-to-wire, board-to-board, FFC/FPC etc.

VGA

VGA connectors is a 3 row 15 pin DE-15 connector. The VGA connectors was used on video cards, laptop computers, etc. These connectors transmits analog component video signals, and VESA digital signals.

S-Video

S-Video connectors are used for standard definition videos. These connectors only transmit video and not audio. The most common type connectors are 4 pin but it is also available up to 7 pin connectors.

BNC

BNC connectors are used for Coaxial cable, and are used in radio, TV, and other electronic equipment. These connectors are used for frequencies less than 4 GHz and voltages less than 500 volts.

Coaxial

Coaxial connectors are used with radio frequencies that is in the multi-megahertz range. These are made for audio, video, digital, RF and microwave industries.

DB-25

The DB25 connector is an analog 25-pin plug from the D-Subminiature connector range. DB25 connectors are applied for parallel port connections, and are commonly used to connect printers. DB25 serial ports on computer generally have male connectors. DB25 is mainly used for serial connections, granting for the asynchronous transmission of data.

DE-9

DE-9 connectors are referred as DB9 connectors by mistake often. DB9 has the smallest “footprint” of the D-Subminiature connectors, and has 9 pins. DB9 connectors are very common on PCs and servers. It is used in keyboards, mouse, joysticks.

DIN

DIN connectors are a type of electronic cable with an architecture that is composed of multiple pins that are within a defensive circular cover. Generally full-sized DIN connector has 3 to 14 pins with a diameter of 13.2 mm. The current DIN connectors are made the the IEC 60130-9 standard.

RJ12

RJ12 is made with 6P6C wiring standard, and there are 6 wires that are terminated in this type of connector that covers all the slots. RJ12 are not very common type of connectors as compared to RJ11.

RJ45

RJ45 are also called as 8P8C. It is used for telecommunications or data equipment and Ethernet networking. It has eight pins on the port, four are used for sending and receiving data, and rest four are used for power networking devices.

Banana connectors

Banana connectors are generally used for joining wires to equipment like speakers to surround receiver. The plugs are used to terminate patch cords for electronic test equipment. The male version is known as banana plug, and the female version is known as banana socket or banana jack.

Alligator Clips

Alligator clips also known as crocodile clip, are used for creating a temporary electrical connection with electrical cable to a battery or other component. Generally, two types of clip are used one is small versions used in electrical laboratory work and other is large version used to connect copper cables to automobile batteries.

RJ11

RJ11 connector is mostly used for telephone lines. This is a modular connector wired and it has four connector positions.

Pin headers

Pin headers (PH) are a type of electrical connector with one or more rows of male pins mostly spaced 2.54 mm (pitch). Pin headers are usually correlate with ribbon cable connectors and are typically used internal to the device (not an external connection method).

Molex Series 8981 connectors- male and female

Molex 8981 power supply connectors are often used in disk drive applications. Molex 8981 are compatible with AMP MATE-N-LOK. Series 8981 is available with multiple versions; vertical, right-angled through-hole and surface mounted.
The female connector is generally found on the end of the cable, it slips inside of plastic case which covered the male pins on the male connector.

JST connectors

JST ( Japanese Solderless Terminal) connectors come in many different Pin to Pin pitch options. The JST system was primarily designed to bridge an electrical connection or carry an electrical signal. But is now commonly used in batteries, motors, circuit boards and more.

RCA connectors

An RCA connector is used to connect audio video sources, receivers/amplifiers. The male RCA connectors have a center pin and outer shell. The female jack has the shield and center conductor.

IEC connectors

ICE connectors are made with the as per the standards of International Electrotechnical Commission with specification IEC-60320. There are two types of ICE connectors – Male and Female.

Barrel connectors

Barrel connectors known as coaxial power connectors is an electrical power connector used for connecting extra-low voltage equipment’s. Barrel connectors are extensively available, in a range of power ratings and voltages, barrel connectors are found as panel mount, cable mount or PCB mounted.

Phone Type Mono Connector

A mono Phono connectors also known as audio jack which transfers analog audio signals. It is used in various devices like headphone and earphone jacks, digital cameras, camcorders, portable DVD players, PC, Electric guitars, instrument amplifiers, loudspeaker outputs etc. It carries single cable to carry the audio signal and a ground.

Phone Type Stereo Connector

An phono type-Stereo connector, also known as audio jack which transfers analog audio signals. It is used in various devices like headphone and earphone jacks, digital cameras, camcorders, portable DVD players, PC, Electric guitars, instrument amplifiers, loudspeaker outputs etc. It carries two cables to carry the audio signals and a ground.

HDMI

USB C type connectors are double sided connectors and slightly larger than the micro-B connector. It transfers data faster than USB A or B. USB-C is commonly used in Smartphones, printers, Adapters, Hard disks and in portable computers USB C Male is typically the host.

Firewire

USB C type connectors are double sided connectors and slightly larger than the micro-B connector. It transfers data faster than USB A or B. USB-C is commonly used in Smartphones, printers, Adapters, Hard disks and in portable computers USB C Female is typically the peripheral.

USB C Male

Micro USB is a economized version of the USB interface and it is developed for connecting compact devices and mobile devices. These are available in three types – A, B, and 3. Micro USB Male is typically the host.

USB C Female

Micro USB is a economized version of the Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface and it is been developed for new cellular phones and tablets for its small factor USB connector design

USB Micro – male

USB mini – Female Cables are used to connect small devices to PC like MP3 Players, Camera, GPS units and some bequest mobile phones.

USB Micro – female

It is also used for plug and play connections for such devices as mouse, keyboard, printers and other USB peripherals. USB mini female is typically the Peripheral.

USB mini – male

It is also used for plug and play connections for such devices as keyboards, mouse, modems, printers, and other USB peripherals. USB mini male is typically the Host.

USB – B female

USB-B is larger than the standard USB-A and slightly more robust. USB-B is typically used in applications where mechanical size constraints are not an issue. They are asymmetric with 4 contacts and can only be plugged in one way with a plastic over molded strain relief. USB-B female is typically the peripheral.

USB – B male

USB-B is larger than the standard USB-A and slightly more robust. USB-B is typically used in applications where mechanical size constraints are not an issue. They are asymmetric with 4 contacts and can only be plugged in one way with a plastic over molded strain relief. USB-B Male is typically the peripheral.

USB – A female

USB A is the most standard connector type. USB A is commonly used on computers, hubs, and devices intended to have additional peripherals. They are asymmetric with 4 contacts and can only be plugged in one way with a plastic over molded strain relief. USB A female is typically the peripheral.
